Are you a truth seeker?

The libraries and the Internet abound with information, yet the truth that will truly set a person free from ignorance and superstition is increasingly difficult to discover. The apostle Paul prophesied humanity would ever be learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth (2 Timothy 3:7).

Most people would say they are truth seekers, but there is a great paradox in our society when it comes to seeking the truth. We spend billions of dollars printing and broadcasting gossip about individuals, while the greater issues of life go unanswered. All societal barometers indicate we are sliding towards Sodom and Gomorrah.

No one really pays much attention to the great questions of life such as: Who is man and what is his purpose? or What happens to us when we die? Even those who claim to believe in God have to a large degree made God over to conform to their lifestyle and beliefs. As a result, good is often regarded as evil and evil is called good. Truth is reduced to a matter of personal opinion, and one opinion is as good as another.

Many also avoid acknowledging truths that are not part of mainstream thinking because of the fear of social ostracism. Jesus Christ, however, proclaimed: “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” (John 6:32).

The truth from the Bible reveals: God does exist and He wants to have a relationship with His creation; Man does not have an immortal soul and does not go to heaven at death; Unrepentant sinners will not burn forever in hell fire, but will become ashes under the feet of the righteous, and God is going to resurrect the faithful at the sound of the seventh trumpet when Jesus comes again.

So now is the time to take to heart the words of the apostle Paul in his epistle to young Timothy: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
