In search for extra terrestrial life
Written by Bill Bradford
Stephen Hawking, famous British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University and a Russian billionaire Yuri Milner have teamed up to renew the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe. The Russian will back this project with a $100 million dollar kick off in hope of discovering life in the universe other than the life we know on this earth. Milner said that he became fascinated with E.T., after reading Carl Sagan's Intelligent Life in the Universe, when he was 10 years old.
Hawking suffers from a motor neuron disease, or Lou Gehrig's disease which slowly paralyses the person. He communicates using a single cheek muscle attached to a communicating device. You may have heard him speak and wondered how he actually makes understandable speech. He wrote the A Brief History of Time which was on the Sunday Times bestseller list for a record breaking 237 weeks.
I am fascinated by this new endeavour to make contact with intelligent life in the universe especially coming from such a brilliant person as Hawking. I saw the movie of his life, in which it was shown that he would not admit to his first wife (he has been married twice) who had a belief in God and things religious that she could be right in her belief in a Creator God.
One would think that with his exceptional mind and his ability to reason that he hasn't concluded that there is intelligent life in the universe. Somehow, in his reasoning, life must have come from non-life, and matter and energy came from nothing.
So he is embarking on a search for intelligent life outside of our planet, assuming that it would appear in a similar manner that evolutionary theorists claim it did on this earth. If his motive is that the intelligence already on this earth is unimpressive and he must look elsewhere, most of us would have to agree with him. But somehow I think he knows that that there has to be life much more intelligent than what we have on earth in physical form. It is probable to the cosmologists that life somewhere exists in the universe and he would like to get in touch. So the giant listening devices and telescopes, now enhanced by computer technology, will scan the one million closest stars to the earth and moving beyond to about 100 galaxies. The technology will allow them to detect 100 watts of power (power of an ordinary household light bulb) from a star 25 trillion miles away.
That's a lot of money to search for messages from outer space and to try to send a message from earth to this intelligent life.
There is a unique group of people who have already made contact (I hope you are one of them) and they didn't need sophisticated listening devices to try to find the most intelligent life in the universe, and he doesn't dwell on this earth. Amazingly, He has already contacted them!
Do you know how to send a message to Him, or to receive a message from Him? Does He ever come to this earth, if so, how, and what does He do? Since He is intelligent, do you know how He thinks? Will He respond to you if you send Him a message? And if you sent Him a message, what would that message be? Stephen Hawking wants to know.
How is God One? Is God a Trinity? Who was Jesus of Nazareth? Was He a mere man, or much more? What was the significance of His death and resurrection? In this booklet you'll learn more about the nature of God and Jesus Christ and our future destiny with them as revealed in the Bible.
Creation or Evolution? Does It Really Matter What You Believe?
In this booklet we examine the foundational premises of evolution. We consider the evidence evolutionists cite to support the theory. Perhaps most important, we look at the scientific facts evolutionists don't discuss in public for reasons that will become clear.
You can know whether evolution is true. We hope you'll examine the evidence carefully. What you believe does matter.
Life's Ultimate Question: Does God Exist?
Is this life all there is, or is there something more? If there is something more, how should awareness of that something impact your life? Why are we here? Is there a purpose for our lives? What is our destiny, and is that destiny inextricably linked with the existence of God? We can find the answers to these questions.
Why do you exist? What is your destiny? Is there a reason, a purpose, for human life? These questions have baffled the greatest thinkers and philosophers down through the ages.
