Chapters 2 and 7 of Daniel contain prophecies of four world-ruling empires symbolised by beasts described as being like a lion, a bear, a leopard and a fourth beast unlike the others. Daniel explained these prophecies to Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon.
