Do Christians still have to keep the Ten Commandments?

Many believe Christ’s sacrifice did away with the Ten Commandments given to the ancient Israelites on Mount Sinai, and it’s no longer necessary for Christians to obey them.

Tragically, the vast majority of people living in the 21st century have rejected the Ten Commandments as the basic standard for human behavior. Even those who profess to follow Christ often view them as irrelevant, because they have been taught the laws recorded in the Old Testament were abolished at Christ’s death.

Many mainstream churches also selectively refer to parts of the Apostle Paul’s writings to erroneously support this approach, in spite of the fact that our Saviour directly addressed these issues during His ministry on earth.

If we carefully study the teachings of Jesus Christ and properly understand the writings of the Apostle Paul there can be no doubt about what is expected of Christians in our modern world. When Christ was asked, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”He responded, “But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments” (Matthew 19:16-17).
