Biblical keys for a happy family

The traditional family structure is breaking down, with society and the media redefining the definition of ‘family’ and moral behaviour. In spite of these negative influences most parents want to ensure their children lead happy and secure Christian lives, eventually maturing to wisely nurture their own families.

Most would agree parents, and other adult family members, should take steps to lessen the impact of negative societal influences on their children. Busy parents need a ‘plan of action’ to ensure they make time to lovingly and effectively interact with their children. Passing on correct values and approaches to cope as a Christian in our modern world is a very important responsibility (Proverbs 22:6).

Following are five proven strategies, or habits, you can incorporate into your daily routine to assist your families in sharing common Christian values and behaviours which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

The starting point is having God and His revealed morality as the foundation of your life. Beyond that, the following points should be considered:

  • Taking time to interact with your children and discuss their thoughts and feelings.
  • Setting a good example. A parent should not expect something of their child they’re not living up to .
  • Watching over and protecting your children both inside and outside the home.
  • Praying and studying with your children.
  • Loving your children unconditionally as God loves us.
